About CIKS

CIKS works towards co-evolving methods, tools and pedagogies that blend insights from indigenous education and contemporary education to create learning spaces that are holistic, engaging, inclusive, sustainable and joyous. 

 

CIKS has been housed at Anaadi Foundation, India and welcomes researchers, practitioners, students, academics and people interested in indigenous knowledge system across the world to work with us.

Objectives 
 

  • Understanding principles of education that emerge from Indigenous education like holistic learner development, ecology and sustainability oriented education, embodied knowledge and collective knowing

  • Exploring how the focus on indigenous spiritual practices brings values such as compassion, empathy, family values,  mutual respect and sense of belongingness amongst educators and learners

  • How Indigenous education principles can solve modern day learner challenges and issues in the educational process that make education stressful, uni-dimensional and objective(ignoring the subjective)

  • Exploring diverse pedagogies prevalent in indigenous education including observation of nature, learning-by-doing, story-telling, memory-centric training, working with the soil and self-reliance skills 

  • Presenting practitioners’ perspectives on indigenous education across cultures and communities

  • Co-evolving methods, tools and pedagogies that blend insights from indigenous education and contemporary education to create learning spaces that are holistic, engaging, inclusive, sustainable and joyous

  • Harnessing indigenous knowledge systems to create transdisciplinary content relevant to contemporary learners
